Ik heb een mooie SM gekocht en laat deze bak ook even nakijken als ik de moter er weer in hang.

sinds kort ben ik in het bezit van een ID19P uit 1961. een auto met het nodige achterstallige onderhoud. althans, dat blijkt als ik er mee ga rijden. de versnellingsbak maakt wat lawaai, maar naarmate ik er meer mee rijdt, wordt het rap erger. uit de 1e versnelling schieten, rammelen bij het afremmen op de motor, kortom, onmogelijk hier mee door te rijden. Harry blijkt een bak klaar te hebben, maar ik wil in 1e instantie de bak door hem laten reviseren. om tijd te besparen, en de garagist wil graag vlot de auto weer de deur uit hebben in verband met ruimte, besluit ik de bak die Harry al klaar heeft staan op te gaan halen, met inruil van mijn bak. wat blijkt; er is geen tandwiel dat niet beschadigd is. een niet te herstellen bak dus. mijn garagist monteert de 'nieuwe' bak en nu rijdt ik vol plezier rond. bij 70-80 km/u is hij nagenoeg geruisloos! ik moet wel weer opnieuw leren schakelen en (ont)koppelen. het kost net allemaal wat meer tijd dan een moderne auto. wat een genot om te rijden met een super schakelende versnellingsbak. een aanrader!

Ik ben de trotse bezitter van een DS 21 1972 uitgerust met een vijfbak. De auto wordt door mij dagelijks gebruikt, na verloop van tijd begon de versnellingsbak steeds meer vreemde geluiden te maken er zat niets anders op dan de versnellingsbak te laten reviseren. De eerste keer dat ik in contact kwam met Harry Martens voelde ik meteen een klik. Geluk bij een ongeluk een gereviseerd bak was voorhanden. Na montage van de versnellingsbak is het rijden in de DS weer echt ouderwets genieten. Harry is een echte vakman, en staat altijd met raad en daad voor je klaar!

Dear Harry,
I just started a third driving season with my DSpecial after installing a NOS gearbox you supplied in October 2008. I remember growing tired of the “singing” gearbox that Summer due to the the worn ring and pinion in my original gearbox. I performed online search looking for parts and I found your web site. My immediate impression was very positive – a professional and informative web site telling me all I wanted to know. I sent you an e-mail and within hours received a response outlining my options ranging from tested used ring and pinion, through NOS set, fully reconditioned gearbox, to NOS one you had at the time. My mechanic agreed with your recommendation to consider a reconditioned gearbox since some of the bearings are probably warn too. So, taking into account labour involved, it made more sense to get the gearbox sorted out for good. The NOS gearbox you had was too tempting, so that’s what I went for.
The delivery, as well as answers to my questions about the recommended oil etc. were as prompt and precise as the first contact – true 1st class service and support pre and post-sale!
Since than, I contacted you several times for advice on gearbox related questions about my other Citroens (4xGS, 2CV), as well as my latest acquisition – 1952 Citroen TA 15-6. Your response was always prompt and precise, and I fairly quickly stopped looking at any other sources. Anything gearbox related – I go to Harry. It is real pleasure and good fortune for us classic Citroen enthusiast to have such an expert with passion for his work and quest for perfection.

David Bourne: DS 5 speed BVH
Dear Harry, Just to let you know that we've now successfully covered a
couple of thousand miles with the 5 speed installation. The car, a 1967
DS21 re-engined as a 23 (carb) has been quite transformed.
I suppose my only observation is that the box is now so quiet that I
can hear all sorts of other noises from the rest of the car and that I
tend now to drive the car quite a bit faster as it is so quiet. There is no
doubt in my mind that the quality of the gearchange has also improved
in that changes now feel more slick. In the flatlands of England's south
I think the car would easily take the high ratio crown wheel and pinion
but amongst the lumps and bumps of the Pyrenees I find the standard
five speed ratios ideal.DS owners local to me down there are most
intrigued by the installation..... Finally thanks again for your valued
advice and support while we were removing the old box and fitting the
new.To have my questions and concerns answered so promptly was a
great help to one who is very much an amateur mechanic! Needless to
say we would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending one of
your gearboxes to other owners.

Jeroen Schoonderbeek: Revisie na 5 jaar, loopt nog steeds als een zonnetje
Is al weer ruim 5 jaar geleden dat ik de bak van mijn DS 1964 heb laten
reviseren. In het kader van een volledige restauratie ging alles er toch uit.
Het loopt allemaal nog steeds als een zonnetje. Met goede afstelling
van de hydrauliek schakelen met de half automaat zonder de voet van
het gas te halen. Geweldig! En de opnieuw goud-verzinkte boutjes met
Citro-logo die Harry levert glimmen ook nog volop. Bij mijn weten is
hij de enige die dat levert. Het is nog steeds een genot om de kap te
openen (mist het niet is om iets te moeten fixen)en te zien hoe netjes
alles er nog uit ziet.

hallo herr martens , seit diesem sommer 2010 fährt mein Citroen SM
mit einem austauschgetriebe von ihnen . bisher etwa 2000 km .
alles ist bestens . keine differentialgeräusche wie vorher . man kann
sagen , daß ich das erste mal mit einem neuwertigen getriebe
unterwegs bin . meinen SM besitze ich seit 1980 .

Graham Pryme: Matra Murena Quaife ATB Differential
Morning Harry, As promised a picture of my Talbot Matra Murena 2.2 with
my newly installed HML Limmen rebuilt gearbox with Quaife ATB
Differential fitted, all prepared with your stickers on the doors ready for
a 2-day Sprint Meeting at Lydden Hill Race Circuit in KENT, UK.
It rained heavily on the Saturday and the car blew away completely
the comparable opposition. On the Sunday it was dry and I improved
on my previous best time by 3 secs. over 1.75 laps of the circuit.,
which in Sprinting terms is quite substantial! The car has now been
transformed quite dramatically with all the tramping and oversteer
virtually eliminated on cornering. Even acceleration is noticeably
different from a standing start, being so much smoother with tyre spin
reduced. What is so amazing is how the Differential deals with all this
seamlessly, when it is a purely mechanical device. The gearbox itself
also provided positive and effortless gear changes all day, which
cannot be faulted in any way. I would recommend the Quaife ATB
Differential and your prompt and skilled services to anyone.

Grace à Harry, plus de bruit de synchro sur ma 23 IE! La boite hydro en
échange standard marche à merveille. Pas de bruit, ni au roulage, ni au
changement de vitesse. L'accueil est sympathique, l'atelier très propre

satisfaisant.

Hello, I would like to give you a feedback about the gearbox I bought in
January. A lot of work has been done on my car since I came to Limmen
to pick up the box. It has been a bit longer than scheduled, as I decided
to make the motor repaired by the same time. At last, everything is
completed. I have made my first 200km and everything is all right:
very quiet cruising and very efficient synchros when shifting up or down.
It's really a great pleasure to drive this 23 IE, whith an hydro box that
works like a brand new one. Thank you for your job. Congretulations for
your website and your workshop. If someone asks me about a DS gearbox
specialist, I will not hesitate to recommend HML!

I just want to thank you once more Harry for excellent service in
connection with my SMgearbox. I got a reconditioned HMLbox six months
ago, and it worked perfect - almost. Perfect on synchromesh,
perfect on all gear changes, soft, but stil firm. But alas, a squeeking,
irritating noise on 5th gear, like an old tram. Especially annoying when
driving at normal speeds. In order to cure it we tried a magic oil
adhesive called XADO. But unfortunately, no miracle occured.
So Harry proposed to change the gear, free of charge. And that he did
some two weeks ago. Today, I am back on the road again and I am
really pleased to report the noise has completely disappeared.
Full credit to you Harry on your hospitality and your unique knowlegde
and experience. Need I say no more???

Simon Holland: 5 speed box
Hi Harry, just to pass on my thanks for an excellent service. The new
5 x speed semi auto is now fitted in my 1967 DS19 Pallas (DS23 engine)
and working great. The engine is reving much less now, making
motorway driving far more relaxing on me and the engine! and
reducing fuel consumption. The foot switch operation is working fine,
along with the hidden LED indicators.

Hans Staartjes: 5 speed semi auto
I now drive a 5 speed semi auto gearbox mated to a 2.5 block that
Adie Pease (Peacock Engineering in Norfolk) built. Adie bought the semi
auto kit from Harry a little while ago together with a high ratio crown
wheel and pinion. I have driven this combination for a week now and
am ecstatic with the performance of both. Hats off to Adie and Harry,
two engineers who have pushed the DS beyond it's original bounds!

Beste Harry, Mijn hobby is het knutselen aan oude auto's. De automaat
van mijn Rover P6, een Borg Warner 65 was onlangs stuk. Niet gehinderd
door enige deskundigheid uit elkaar gehaald en geconstateerd dat er
wel erg veel onderdelen in zitten. Ik ben erg tevreden over de manier
waarop jij via de email of telefonisch de diagnose stelt en mij zeer snel
aan de benodigde onderdelen hielp. Zonder jou advies zou de Rover
nog niet lopen. Een volgende keer kom ik graag bij je terug.

Henk Eijsbouts: Quaife Limited Slip Differential
Dear Harry, I’ll whrite this message in English so our British friends can
also understand. We are Dono and Henk, a long time married gay couple
living in Waalre, the Netherlands and we own a Citroen DS 23 (Pallas)
Rally from 1975. In the summer from 2006 we participated in the
Classic Car Rally from Amsterdam to Beijing in China and finished in
the overall 3rd place from 100 cars. We could not have done it with
this result without the specially prepared gearbox by Harry. Very fast
in low gears during mountain climbing and regularities and when
overtaking. Last week we drove the 2008 Winter Trial in the highest
Trial class, in the Czech Republic, 3000km or narrow, very icy and
snow covered roads.
This time with Harry’s new Limited Slip Differential!
It is unbelievable how the DS copes with very critical conditions.
We where very happy to have it on the car.
In the 1970 and 1971 “Ronde de Chamonix” and the “Neige et Glace”
the DS from Mazet was already equipped with
an experimental “differential autobloquant”.
Thank you Harry! With your gearbox installed our DS is more than
ever before the Goddess of the road!

Mooie CX bedrijfswagen heb je ! Mijn door jou gereviseerde 5-bak is nu
operationeel in mijn CX 2400 GTI met gereviseerde motor. Wat rijdt dat
heerlijk ! Een soepele stille motor met een strak schakelende bak die
zonder bijgeluiden alle opgewekte wilde paarden resoluut naar het
wegdek begeleid.

Hello Harry, I just want to thank you so much for receiving one of your
reconditioned gearboxes for my -72 SM 5 sp carb. My 36 yars old gbox
showed all the symptons of needing a renovation, noises, slow on
synchronizing, etc. So a job had to be done. I considered doing the job
locally, but found out rather quickly that this was a job for a speciaist.
Therefore I contacted Harry and we agreed on a swap.
I put my old gearbox in the trunck of my XM TCT, straped it up and
put the cruise control in the ON-position.
I drove all the way through Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Germany
into Netherland, to Limmen. Although very windy and rainy it was solid
tourism, especially the drive over dikene. Very impressive piece of
construction! But the most impressive of it all was the stop in your
workshop Harry! Although quickly, I must say it feels good to watch a
real specialist. The workshop looked very tidy, every nut and gasket in
their own defined position. And even a special device for final testing,
very ingenious. So I felt lucky and relaxed returning home with a 'new'
HMLgearbox. I really do look forward to putting it into action, and I feel
absolutely confident that it will fulfil all my expectations. All the best to

fam Knip: Advies BW
Bij het voorleggen van ons probleem met het kiezen van een BW bak heb
je met ons bijzonder goed mee gedacht en ons zeer goed kunnen
adviseren. Zelfs in de avonduren ! Hier ligt dan al een solide basis voor

Its an absolutely terrific site - well done!! The photos are fascinating
....small point, how about some captions for some of the photos,
they do after all show lots of information, and it would be really interesting
to know in a bit more detail what they are showing?
Your English I know is excellent...
Harry well done - a really professional site.I love the definition of how a
differential works....a bit like the off-side rule in football...we all think we
know the answer, but actually its rather more complicated than we all
admit to! My Grandfather always prided himself that he could define the
workings of a diff...but sadly I never really paid attention!
I've yet to install the gearbox you so kindly overhauled for me, but come
the Spring, all should be ready to be fired up......can't wait!!

Hi Harry, I'm really pleased with the five gear hydraulic box you have developed. The quality of all the gearbox and gearchanges is excellent. The box is so quiet now. But the major achievement is that extra gear. The car (DS23 Injection) really performs well - 90 miles per hour at 4000 revs, 70 mph at only 3000 revs. Looking forward to improvements in the fuel consumption as well. Nice look. The site is clean looking, yet stylish.It is highly functional and easily navigated. I like a site where
you don't have to hunt for information.
So often, as in a car or building, form does not follow function.
This is done here very well. Originally the same function was
accomplished with frames, as in my site. Frames are no longer
used (except by amateurs like me), because a more integrated
and easy to use method like yours is now possible.

liegen kann, dass meine ID19 von 63 beim Bremsen stark zittert, das abererst, seit ich die Scheiben mal habe etwas abschleifen lassen.Wenn es das Getriebe sein sollte:Wie verschickt man sowas?

Hé Harry, Je site ziet er nu perfect uit,veel info met goede foto's die het allemaal nog veel duidelijker maken. De bak die je voor mij gereviseerd hebt (3jaar geleden) werkt nog steeds perfect.Ga zo door zodat er nog veel meer liefhebbers van onze auto's kunnen genieten. René
